Scrubs Addressing the Firearm Epidemic (SAFE) Discussion on September 17

Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine medical students are leading a local chapter of the Scrubs Addressing the Firearm Epidemic (SAFE) program, a national nonprofit that rallies the medical community to fight to eliminate gun violence after seeing the devastation firearms cause to patients.

All members of the Northwestern community are invited to a discussion aimed to educate attendees on the next steps to address the firearm epidemic, with guest speakers and a panel discussion on gun violence.

There will also be a moment of silence in memory of Shane Colombo, an incoming PhD student who lost his life on September 2 as a victim of gun violence in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago.

• Susan Johnson, Executive Director, Chicago Survivors
• Cure Violence

We are hoping for this to be a wide-reaching event because all of us can make an impact at preventing gun violence, regardless of our field. In fact, the more fields we have working on this issue, the better our outcomes will be. SAFE hopes to empower all members of the Northwestern community to take action against this kind of gun violence and prevent future tragedies.
