Computational Research Day 2018

Attention students and postdocs! Display your research, practice presenting, network with fellow researchers, and compete for prizes at Northwestern Computational Research Day on Tuesday April 10, 2018. All areas of research are welcome. This year’s event will include a Poster Contest, Visualization Competition and Lightning Talks.

Visualization Competition

The Visualization Competition is an opportunity for you to showcase your images, animations, and interactive data visualizations.

Who: Northwestern students and postdocs

Prizes: All contestants will be eligible for prizes. One winner from each of the three categories will receive a $500 VISA gift card.

Enter: Submit up to one entry per category (static images, animations, and interactives). Please visit the Visualization Competition page for submission requirements. All materials are due March 16, 2018.

Poster Contest

The Poster Competition at Computational Research Day is an opportunity for you to present your research to Northwestern faculty, staff, students, and postdocs.

Who: Northwestern students and postdocs are eligible to present their research (note: postdocs are not prize eligible)

Prizes: First prize: $1,500 towards attendance at a conference or research experience of the winner's choice; Second prize: $300 VISA gift card; Third prize: $200 VISA gift card

Enter: Submit your poster in one of the following file types: .PDF, .PPT, or .AI. Posters with abstracts are due March 16, 2018. Learn more about submissions guidelines.

Lightning Talks

Lightning talks are short presentations that should focus on a computational research project you are working on. They are an excellent forum to practice presentation and communication skills.

Who: Northwestern undergraduate and graduate students

Prize: Audience members will judge talks and a $100 VISA gift card will be awarded to the winning talk.

Enter: Submit your application to present by 5 PM on March 6, 2018. Twelve submissions will be selected. Invitees will be notified by March 9, and invited speakers will be expected to attend a dress rehearsal event the week of April 2nd. Learn more.
