GLAC Presents: A Community Outreach Event in Honor of Shane Colombo on April 22

Meet leaders from various community organizations based in Rogers Park to learn how you can become more connected to and involved in the neighborhood at a community outreach event on Monday, April 22, from 12:30 - 2:30 PM at Hardin Hall in the West Tower of Rebecca Crown Center.

The event will commence with comments from Dean Woodruff of The Graduate School and members of Shane Colombo’s family followed by brief introductions of each community organization. The remainder of the event will be an opportunity to mingle with these organizations stationed around the room:

  • Good News Partners: New Life Shelter
  • Housing Opportunities for Women
  • Howard Area Community Center
  • Rogers Park Business Alliance
  • Starfish Learning Center
  • UR Chicago

These community organizations are coming to campus through a connection with Neighbor2Neighbor, a Northwestern initiative that promotes learning and service rooted in the local community. This event is hosted by the Graduate Leadership & Advocacy Council (GLAC) in honor of Shane Colombo, an incoming PhD student who lost his life to gun violence on September 2, 2018. All graduate students and anyone else who is part of the Northwestern community and would like to learn more are welcome to come and go as they can. Light refreshments will be served.

  • 12:30 - 12:45 PM: Opening remarks by Dean Teresa K. Woodruff, PhD and members of Shane Colombo’s family
  • 12:45 - 1:00 PM: Introduction of community organizations
  • 1:00 - 2:30 PM: Mix and mingle with community organizations
