THE GRADUATE SCHOOL

This program will serve as a certification for a variety of Northwestern trainees who already have doctorate degrees (e.g., MD, PhD) but require further graduate education in specific research methodology.

These trainees include clinicians and scientists at Northwestern University and who may have received a NIH K-award or foundation career development awards. While these awards typically require and provide support for some formal research training, however, the time allotted for training and level of funding are more consistent with certificate requirements rather than a Master’s degree.

Certificate

Total Units Required: 5

By successfully completing the Methodology certificate, students demonstrate an understanding of multidisciplinary health research methods and an ability to employ these methods to design their own studies. Certificate coursework includes applied instruction in Stata statistical software and will involve independent research papers and proposals.
