By University statute, The Graduate School is charged with supervision of graduate work leading to advanced academic degrees, offering the master of arts (MA), master of fine arts (MFA), master of public health (MPH), master of science (MS) and doctor of philosophy (PhD) degrees in over 70 disciplines. Certificate programs offer interdisciplinary specialization in certain areas, ranging from African studies to law and social science, for students enrolled in graduate degree programs. Furthermore, The Graduate School offers qualified students the opportunity to pursue a number of different combined (joint and dual) degree programs. Please review the following pages to learn more about the extraordinary variety of academic programs offered by The Graduate School in collaboration with the other schools of Northwestern University. Please note: a number of professional degrees (for example, the master of business administration, master of sports administration, master and doctor of music, doctor of audiology, doctor of medicine, and a variety of engineering, law, and journalism degrees) are not conferred by The Graduate School, but by the respective professional schools: the Feinberg School of Medicine, Kellogg School of Management, Medill School of Journalism, McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, School of Communication, School of Education and Social Policy, School of Law, School of Music, School of Continuing Studies. This is the Policy and Course Catalogue for The Graduate School of Northwestern University, academic year 2007-2008, as approved by The Graduate Faculty. All 2007-2008 matriculants pursue their degrees under the policies and departmental descriptions as stated in this document and do so within the structure of the listed courses.
