Research Associate, Center for Heart Failure

Job Description

This research associate within the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute will facilitate, support and coordinate the research efforts of medical and surgical faculty with the Center for Heart Failure.  Specific tasks include monitoring and updating projects, maintaining, querying, and extracting from databases developed and used by our program; assisting investigators with data management and analysis, and supporting the development of research-based manuscripts and presentations for national meetings.  This person will play a central role in the development of the Center’s research enterprise.

Specific responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Works with the medical and surgical directors as well as clinical trials unit staff to develop and support clinical research program
  • Establishes systems for orderly functioning of clinical research projects
  • Manages and plans for data/analysis requests and projects
  • Organizes the clinical research program calendar and meetings


  • Supports development of new databases designed for academic research and quality metrics (CQI)


  • Performs basic statistical analyses using applicable software programs
  • Develops table and graphs for presentation
  • Maintains databases with respect to data integrity
  • Cleans and analyses data for program research and CQI
  • Contributes to manuscripts as a co-author

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of 4 year degree baccalaureate from an accredited college or university, OR appropriate combination of education and experience
  • Experience with statistical software such as STATA, SAS, or SPSS
  • Analytical skills including critical thinking, data mining, and problem solving
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to successfully work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with R statistical software
  • Experience with REDCap
  • Experience programming in SQL or Python
  • Experience with database design/structure, database mining
  • Experience with survival analysis, regression modeling, and data management
  • Masters level preparation, or higher in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health or related field or the equivalent combination and experience in statistic, data management and statistical data processing
  • Experience writing scientific manuscripts
  • Background in research methodology
