Coalition for Next Generation Life Science Statistics

In July 2019, Northwestern joined the Coalition for Next Generation Life Science, a collaboration that aims to provide meaningful data that speaks directly to the current state of graduate education, postdoctoral training, and career prospects in the life sciences. This is an important undertaking that facilitates a greater degree of transparency and comparability for students, faculty and institutions of higher learning.

Northwestern joins 45 other institutions, among which are: Cornell University, Duke University, Emory University, Johns Hopkins University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), New York University (NYU), University of North Carolina (UNC), University of California at Berkeley, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), University of Chicago, University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt University, and Washington University in St. Louis.

Coalition members commit to collecting and publishing data using common standards on:

  • Admissions and matriculation data of PhD students.
  • Median time-to-degree and completion data for PhD programs.
  • Demographics of PhD students by gender, underrepresented minority status (URM), and citizenship status.
