Upcoming Activities from GSA

Created: April 15, 2019

Northwestern University's Graduate Student Association (GSA) is hosting a variety of events in coming weeks. Please consider joining them for one or more of these activities:

What Does Your Grandma Think You Study?

Have you ever tried to explain your research to your grandparents, friends, or even colleagues and received that blank look on their faces? YES. In collaboration with the Science Policy Outreach Task Force (SPOT) come workshop ways to better explain your work. GSA will have three expert speakers, including Dr. Yarrow Axford, giving tips and advice on how to better communicate your research. Come for the tips and stay for the food - dinner will be served. Space is limited, so sign up early. RSVP here. Contact Nikita or Naomi with any questions.

LinkLunch
  • Date: Wednesday, April 24 and Thursday, April 25
  • Time: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Location: Food for Thought at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary (2121 Sheridan Rd, Evanston)

Want to connect with a graduate student from a different department and take part in meaningful and substantive conversations about curricular or extracurricular areas of interest? If so, sign-up for LinkLunch, where GSA matches you up with another graduate student based on your topics of interest. Meet your match at Food for Thought and you will both receive a free lunch (up to $10)! Please fill out this form to register, and contact Saba with any questions.

Celebrate Earth day by giving your city a little love. Join community members to help clean up Evanston! GSA will be cleaning the lovely Clark Street Beach from 9:00-11:00AM on Saturday, April 27. It's time for GSA annual 5K/10K charity race, so get ready to run or volunteer! There are great prizes for the top place finishers, a free T-shirt for the first 100 runners to register, and post-race snacks for everyone! GSA is also looking for volunteers to help organize the race; all volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and breakfast.

Proceeds from the event will go to Girls on the Run, a non-profit that works to encourage pre-teen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles. Northwestern students, faculty, staff, and affiliates (family/friends) are welcome.

Register to run and/or volunteer here! Contact Hussain for more information.
