Northwestern Alumni Association's February Webinars hosted by TGS Alumni

The Northwestern Alumni Association will be hosting two TGS alumni-led webinars in February. Each individual will discuss a topic relating to their experience and expertise that will aid your professional development and better prepare you for the challenges and changes of the future. Seeing the Big Picture: Diversity, Inclusion, and You

Demographic projections suggest that our society is becoming more racially and ethnically diverse. How do you identify and capture the value that exists from more multicultural schools, organizations, businesses, and communities? We will explore how individuals can contribute to the creation of more diverse and inclusive environments at the personal and institutional levels. You will learn concepts from the counseling field that will enhance your perspective on diversity, so that your place in the picture comes into focus. 

The NAA is delighted to collaborate on this webinar with The Family Institute at Northwestern University. The Family Institute is a behavioral health group practice committed to whole health for individuals, families and couples. Located in Chicago, Evanston, Northbrook and Westchester, The Family Institute is an organization of educators, researchers and therapists partnering with their clients to see change.

Kesha Burch, '96, MA - Kesha Burch is a licensed clinical professional counselor with over twenty years of professional experience as a therapist, advocate, and educator. She is a core faculty member in the Counseling Program at The Family Institute at Northwestern University.Ms. Burch received a BA in Psychology from The University of Michigan and an MA in Counseling Psychology from Northwestern University. Currently, Ms. Burch is a doctoral candidate in Counselor Education and Supervision at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Ms. Burch balances teaching, research, and clinical practice in her work at The Family Institute. She teaches Ethics, and Human Growth and Development. Her research addresses professional development, supervision, and cultural competence.

You’ve heard about “the confidence gap” and that you need not just a mentor but a “sponsor”. What happens when those tactics fail? How do you keep pushing forward when, again and again, you’re the only one at the table that looks like you? We’ll discuss how to find your voice when you’re under represented, how to navigate a landscape where the rules are different and often feel skewed against you and share some practical strategies to persevere through these challenges. 

Meghan Anzelc, '08, PhD - Meghan Anzelc is the Vice President of Data and Analytics for AXIS Insurance, a business segment of AXIS Capital Holdings Ltd (NYSE: AXS). In this new role, Dr. Anzelc is responsible for developing and executing the strategy and roadmap for data and analytics within the Company’s Insurance segment. Prior to joining AXIS, Dr. Anzelc was Vice President, Lead Data Scientist, for Zurich North America, where she led predictive analytics projects across underwriting and claims. She has also held actuarial and analytics roles at CNA and Travelers.

Dr. Anzelc holds a Bachelor’s degree in physics from Loyola University Chicago and a Masters and Ph.D. in physics from Northwestern. She regularly participates in initiatives focused on providing relevant guidance on career planning and professional development, to insurance professionals, graduate students and post-doctoral scholars in the sciences and math. She is a member of the Steering Committee for the Women in Insurance Networking Group.
