BioSurvival Skills Job Search Series

Modified: March 3, 2017

BioProfessionals and the Chicago Graduate Student Association are pleased to present a new BioSurvival Skills Job Search Series. In a series of 4 monthly workshops, stages of the non-academic job search will be covered, beginning with exploring careers and ending with interviewing for jobs. Mark your calendars for all 4!

  • March 22, Exploring Careers Outside Academics. They will discuss the types of jobs available to PhDs outside academics, how to research them, and how to find what might be a good fit for you.
  • April 19, Networking and Informational Interviewing. They will discuss tips for networking in a variety of contexts (professional meetings, networking events, online), as well as how to land and conduct informational interviews.
  • May 17, Resumes and Cover Letters. They will use real life examples of resumes and cover letters tailored to jobs outside academics to show you how to emphasize your fit for new positions.
  • June 21, Interviewing. They will talk about ways to prepare for and ace your in-person interview.

All events start at 4pm in the Searle Seminar Room, Lurie Building, Chicago campus. Please RSVP to Pam Carpentier by March 20 if you plan to attend the first workshop (you can also RSVP for the whole series if you prefer). If you are interested in attending but cannot make it to Chicago, please let Pam know. If there is sufficient interest, arrangements will be made for the workshop to be videoconferenced via BlueJeans.
