Modified: November 11, 2016

On November 16, 2016, the Office of the Provost, in collaboration with the Assessment/Accreditation Council and the Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching, will host the fourth annual Learning, Teaching and Assessment Forum at the Norris University Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This year’s forum theme is Examining the Evidence of Student Learning.

Through interactive sessions, presenters will share initiatives across a wide range of disciplines and contexts at the course, unit, and school levels. This year’s topics include the assessment of learning without exams; using mastery learning to teach and assess communication skills; designing student-centered learning outcomes; and assessing learning using games. Please see the forum schedule for all presentation titles and presenters.

The forum will also hold a lunchtime panel, in which faculty members from a range of disciplines and schools will share their reflections and insights on the assessment of student learning. The faculty panelists include: Oluwaseyi Balogun (Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering); Zosia Krusberg (Physics and Astronomy); Franziska Lys (German); Inna Naroditskaya (Musicology); and Jacob Smith (Radio-Television-Film). The panel will be moderated by Candy Lee (Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications).

Following the formal program, there will also be a post-forum workshop focused on making assessment useful.

For any questions about the forum, please contact Susanna Calkins, Director, Faculty Programs, Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching. For more information about the Forum, please see the Searle Center website.
