A message of support to the Northwestern community

Modified: July 11, 2016

Dear Students,

In the past several days, our nation has witnessed more police shootings resulting in the deaths of two young men, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. The video recordings that have circulated are graphic and very disturbing. Then on Thursday, police officers who were protecting peaceful protestors in Dallas were killed. These senseless, violent acts have left us questioning many things about ourselves and our communities, as well as spawned anger, grief, fear, disbelief, and many other reactions. And these reactions can vary widely and depend on many factors, including, but not limited to, our individual coping mechanisms and support systems. We would like to offer students who need support – either now or at any point in the days and weeks ahead – to reach out to Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at 847-491-2151, the Dean of Students Office at 847-491-8430, and/or the Chaplain’s staff at 847-491-7256. Staff in these areas are here and available to you. Additional resources and assistance can be found at NUhelp.

In this time particularly, let’s take care of ourselves and each other, and please remember that it is okay to reach our for help and support.
