Spotlight on Wendy Weaver, Chicago Campus Student Health Expert

Modified: June 24, 2015

As the Student Insurance Advocate on Northwestern’s Chicago campus, Wendy Weaver is a resource for students who need help getting health care or navigating their insurance. “I act as an intermediary between the NU sponsored plan (Aetna) and students by providing assistance with enrollment, plan benefits, eligibility, health services questions, referrals, pre-certification, access and claim issues for students,” she said.

To avoid getting charged for free student health care, Wendy provided three steps to avoiding insurance snafus for Chicago campus students. “First, when scheduling an appointment students should call 312-695-8134, and make sure to identify themselves as a Northwestern student,” she said. “Second, they should make sure to always have an insurance card on hand; if a student needs to print an insurance card, they should visit the Aetna website at www.aetnastudenthealth.com, click on “Print Your ID Card”, then enter prefix 334 followed by your student ID and date of birth. Finally, if a student needs medical services outside the student health center, they should make sure to receive a referral from Health Services.”

Wendy also serves as a resource for students who do get charged for health care. Any student who needs help with an insurance claim or charge can contact Wendy at w-weaver@northwestern.edu, or by calling 312-503-1242. She is also available to answer questions about what services are covered by Northwestern’s student health insurance plan.
