Introduction to Programming for Big Data
Format: 7 day bootcamp with face-to-face instruction from 9am to 5pm
Dates: September 8-11, and 14-16
Instructors: Luis Amaral and Adam Pah

Requirements: A current laptop running Windows (7, 8, or 8.1) or OS X (10.9 or 10.10). Commitment to attend lectures and complete the homework assignments.

Description: The bootcamp is aimed at individuals with little to no programming experience. Enrollment is open to undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, professional school students, and faculty, but is capped at 250 participants. Participation will be granted on a first-come basis. 

Participant learning will be evaluated through daily homework assignment.  Participants who satisfactorily complete homework assignment will receive a certificate.

The first three days will cover basic programming in Python: data types, flow control, style guide and commenting, plotting data. 

The final four days will cover essential skills for Big Data analytics: web scraping, image and text processing, regression methods, etc.
