Health Insurance Rates for 2015-16

Modified: June 2, 2015

Following the announcement about the increase in the base stipend rate to $29,000 effective September 1, TGS is pleased to preview information about the student health insurance rates for the 2015-16 academic year. The fully subsidized student plan will continue to provide a platinum level of coverage. Due to continued advocacy for the needs of our graduate students and negotiations with coverage providers, the maximum out-of-pocket cost will be decreasing to $1,300 from $1,800 per year. The increased based stipend rate and decreased health costs for students are improvements to the quality of life for our graduate student population.

The rates for plan participants have been equalized as a result of the Affordable Care Act, which may be subject to future regulatory changes, making the plan costs for dependents and children significantly lower than in previous years. The rates are:

Student: $3,692 per year
Dependent: $3,692 per year
Child: $3,692 per year

We are pleased to continue to offer the highest level of health benefits to our graduate students, including decreasing out-of-pocket expenses while keeping co-payments and deductibles at current levels and reducing the premiums for dependents and children.  More information will be forthcoming from the Office of Risk Management and the Health Insurance Office this summer with specific details of the plan and open enrollment windows.
