Beyond Graduate School Success: Underrepresented Minorities in STEM

A panel of six NU alumni will discuss achieving success in their respective STEM fields after graduate school and host small-group breakout sessions. The event includes lunch with the panelists and breakout sessions for attendees to engage in small-group discussions with individual alumni. The event is sponsored by The Graduate School, McCormick School of Engineering, One Book One Northwestern, NU Career Advancement, and AccessibleNU

The folloing are the six panelists moderated by Associate Professor Karen Smilowitz, Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences:

  • Dr. Jorge Cantu, Post-Doctoral Fellow, Anesthesiology; Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University
  • Dr. Maisha Gray-Diggs, Section Head of Baby Care Disruptive Innovation, Procter & Gamble Corporation
  • Dr. Joseph Hibdon, Assistant Professor Mathematics, Northeastern Illinois University
  • Dr. Michael Johnson, Associate Professor, Department of Public Policy and Public Affairs, University of Massachusetts Boston
  • Dr. Shiho Kawashima, Assistant Professor Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, Columbia University in New York
  • Dr. Kai Orton, Research Assistant Professor, School of Education, Northwestern University
