Named as the curator for dOCUMENTA 14 to occur in 2017 in Kassel, it is easy to see why the New York Times called Adam Szymzcyk a "superstar among curators." Since 2003, Szymczyk has been director and chief curator at Kunsthalle Basel, where he has organized exhibitions of artists including Paul Sietsema and Adriana Lara (both 2012), Sung Hwan Kim (2011), Moyra Davey (2010) and Danh Vo (2009), among others. In 2011 he was awarded the Walter Hopps Award for Curatorial Achievement at the Menil Foundation in Houston. With Elena Filipovic, he co-curated the 5th Berlin Biennial (2008). He aslo co-founded the Foksal Gallery Foundation in Warsaw, where he served as curator from 1997 to 2003.
