The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is currently accepting applications for the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas' (CPRIT) Translational Research in Multi-Disciplinary Program (TRIUMPH) Postdoctoral Fellowship in Translational Cancer Research. Spotlight on Bonnie Etherington: PhD Candidate in the Department of English

Bonnie Etherington is a PhD candidate in the Department of English at the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. She studies Indigenous-authored poetry and novels from Oceania that challenge U.S. and Eurocentric narratives of the trans-Pacific. Bonnie was recently named a Presidential Fellow, the most prestigious fellowship awarded to graduate students by Northwestern University.

Professional Development: What’s the Takeaway?: Lesson Planning Around Student-Centered Goals

Instructors often plan lessons around the readings or assignments and what activities they want to use. This workshop presents a "backward design" approach to lesson planning, asking participants to think through what students should be able to do at the end of the lessons and then selecting activities to align with those outcomes. We will discuss and practice writing SMART objectives and structuring your sections with them in mind.

Applications Invited for 2019-2020 Visiting Fellowships and Travel Grants at the Lewis Walpole Library, Yale University

The Lewis Walpole Library, a department of Yale University Library, funds four-week visiting fellowships and two-week travel grants to support research in the Library’s rich collections of eighteenth-century materials (mainly British). In addition, the Library administers two jointly funded residential fellowships: The LWL / ASECS Library Fellowship is awarded to an ASECS member in good standing for up to four weeks of research at the Lewis Walpole Library, and The LWL / Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library Fellowship is awarded to support up to eight weeks of research in the collections of both libraries.

Delores Zohrab Liebmann Fellowship

The Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fund administered by JPMorgan, Trustee. Mrs. Liebmann was the daughter of a prominent Armenian intellectual, writer and statesman and was married to one of the owners of a successful American business. She supported students and educational and charitable organizations during her lifetime. Mrs. Liebmann's primary concern, as expressed in her Will, was to attract and support students with outstanding character and ability who hold promise for achievement and distinction in their chosen fields of study.

Unlawful Presence Policy Revision for International Students

The current revision of the “unlawful presence” policy is a major change to the enforcement of visa regulations for F1 and J1 students and J1 scholars. If you fail to comply or report changes on time, and violate your immigration status requirements as a result, you can face deportation and be barred from the U.S. for 3-10 years under these new enforcement guidelines. Spotlight on Max Shepherd: PhD Candidate in the Department of Biomedical Engineering

Max Shepherd is a PhD candidate in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the McCormick School of Engineering. A postdoctoral position is available at the Feinberg Cardiovascular and Renal Research Institute, Northwestern University School of Medicine, Chicago to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms controlling the formation of the cardiovascular system using mouse models and stem cell-based approaches. They are particularly interested in understanding signaling pathways leading to transcriptional regulation of genes involved in developmental and pathological (lymph) angiogenesis.

Nyree Zerega is the Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) of the Program in Plant Biology and Conservation at the Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences, offered jointly with the Chicago Botanic Garden. Her research focuses primarily on evolution, systematics, biogeography, and reproductive ecology of plants; as well as conservation of plant genetic resources (especially underutilized crops and their wild relatives).
