Welcome to the Training Grant Support Office (TGSO). Established with the support of the Feinberg School of Medicine, the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the School of Communication, The Graduate School, and the Office of the Provost, this office currently provides support to graduate programs and faculty in the preparation of institutional training grant proposals and renewal applications submitted to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Education, and other agencies. The focus is on institutional training grants that support graduate student and post-doctoral fellow training, such as the NIH National Research Service Award Institutional Training Grants (NRSA T32) and the NSF Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT).
Working collaboratively with individual and institutional entities involved in training grants and related data, TGSO currently provides the following services:
- Data management services (e.g., data collection, coordination, reporting, software tools, proposal data table production, tracking of active and proposed institutional training grants) involving institution-wide data needed for institutional training grant proposals
- Includes but is not limited to faculty biosketches and data, student demographics, current and past trainee information, protocol data
- Proposal development aids (e.g., budget development tool, project planning aid, sample and boilerplate text to be customized for proposals)
- Sharing of best practices, advice, tips and traps
- Process improvements for proposal development
- Communications on training grant related matters, e.g., new opportunities, policy changes, important funding agency information via links from TGSO web pages
- Training grant-related advice, funding agency and NU policy and procedure information, answers to questions, problem resolution, etc.
- Special training grant-related projects
