Programs offering degrees awarded by The Graduate School must conform to standards established by the Graduate Faculty regarding residency and grades. Academic programs may specify additional requirements, which must be stated on each department's Web site, or in another publication available from the department. Faculty committees approved by The Graduate School to evaluate a student's progress may also recommend supplementary requirements.
In addition to requirements that apply to all students, specific requirements apply to students seeking master's degrees and doctorates.
All Degrees
All Northwestern University graduate students, whatever degree they seek, must fulfill a set of requirements regarding residency, approved courses, grades, and filing requirements for graduation.
In addition to requirements directly related to awarding of a degree, all students are required to maintain standards of academic integrity and adhere to a code of academic ethics (see the Academic Integrity section of this Web site). Regulations concerning registration and changes of academic program also apply to all students across degree programs and disciplines.
