MA Thesis: Encouraging State Irresponsibility: Int (2006).
This paper examines the lackluster international response to the conflict in Darfur with respect to the newly emergent Responsibility to Protect doctrine. It argues that the international community's inconsistent demand for the Sudanese government to protect its population coupled with empty threats of multilateral sanction has both further empowered the regime and weakened the normative salience of R2P.
BA Honours Thesis: The Janjaweed in the Sudan: A C (2005).
This paper explores the implications of the National Congress regime's employment of civil militia groups to combat domestic insurgencies. It argues that the Sudanese government's dependence on these actors has greatly eroded its ability to independently exercise sovereign authority particularly as demonstrated in the present conflict in Darfur. Moreover, it strongly suggests that this strategy is likely to lead to state collapse in the relatively near future.
