Graduate students are invited to submit nominations for the 2009/10 Ver Steeg Awards for Faculty and Staff.
The Clarence L. Ver Steeg Graduate Faculty and Staff Awards offer recognition to the many outstanding Northwestern faculty who have given tirelessly of their time to mentor graduate students and develop outstanding programs, as well as to the staff whose efforts are essential to upholding the University’s reputation for excellence in graduate education.
The Awards were established in 2004 in honor of Clarence L. Ver Steeg, who initially joined Northwestern as a Professor of United States History in 1950 and served as Dean of The Graduate School from 1975 to 1986. During his tenure at Northwestern, Ver Steeg was instrumental to such innovations as the founding of the Faculty Planning Committee and the building of a world-class library facility, while also expanding resources for graduate student funding.
Each year, students in The Graduate School may nominate one faculty and one staff member per department or program. A committee comprised of faculty, students, and staff then decides upon the final award recipients, each of whom receives a $3000 award.
The deadline for 2009/2010 nominations is 12:00 noon on Friday, February 12, 2010.
