Evanston Campus
Engelhart Hall, located at 1915 Maple Avenue in Evanston, is a University-operated residence hall for graduate students. The 250-unit hall has air-conditioned studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments. Apartments are furnished, except for linens, kitchen utensils, dishes, and silverware. Rates include all utilities. Garage rentals are not included. (See the information about parking below.) The Off-Campus Housing office, also at 1915 Maple Avenue, helps graduate students secure housing in privately owned buildings. Students may rent furnished rooms in private homes; studio apartments; one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments; and houses. Most apartments are unfurnished. The Off-Campus Housing office also maintains listings of furniture rental companies and posts information about apartments to share with other graduate students and work-exchange opportunities in which a student receives room and board in return for work. Chicago Campus
Northwestern University owns one high-rise residence hall convenient to the Chicago campus. Abbott Hall, 710 N. Lake Shore Drive, is located on the campus and provides single- and double-occupancy dormitory rooms as well as a few studio and one-bedroom apartments. All rooms and apartments are furnished. Some students rent apartments in Chicago and the neighboring suburbs. Since the campus is centrally located, public transportation is excellent. It is highly advisable for students who wish to rent apartments to visit the area and make living arrangements before beginning their graduate work.
