Emily Becker-Weidman

Emily Becker-Weidman is a clinical psychology Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. She works with Dr. Mark Reinecke.  Her research examines cognitive, environmental, and interpersonal factors in relation to depressed adolescents and treatment outcome.  Specifically, her studies have looked at predictors of hopelessness in depressed adolescents, studying the effect of treatments for depression on disruptive behavior disorders in youth, examining the relation between social problem-solving and treatment outcome in depressed adolescents, and the long-term effects of treatment for depression on substance use outcomes.  She completed her dissertation on change in hopelessness and its effect on acute treatment outcome among adolescents treated for depression.  Research findings may contribute to a more personalized approach to addressing suicidality and the treatment of depression in adolescents.  She has presented her research at professional conferences, including the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the Association of Psychology Science. Her work has been published in Journal of Clinical, Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy, Adolescent Psychology and Behavioral Research and Therapy, and Archives of General Psychology.
