Research Space Master Plan Space Assessment Notification

Modified: January 12, 2017

Upcoming Research Space Assessments
The Office of the Provost and Office for Research are beginning to examine research spaces on campus in preparation for a strategic planning and space planning process. This will allow Northwestern to assess current and future needs regarding new research buildings and space. To this end, space assessments will be conducted over the periods of January 19th – 20th and January 31st – February 2nd, 2017 (see this map for the first set of assessments).

These assessments will require access to all rooms within research buildings including laboratories, laboratory support spaces, and office spaces. Representatives from Payette Associates, Affiliated Engineers, and other specialty consultants will proceed with an escort from Facilities Management. The nature of the assessments will be limited to visual inspection and photography. No moving, opening, or modification of building systems or equipment is proposed. It is anticipated that the group will spend less than 5 minutes in each space. Do not be concerned if individuals are viewing and photographing your research spaces.

If any of your spaces have unique requirements or circumstances that would prohibit consultants from entering and/or photographing your space, please send the room number(s) and a brief description of circumstances to Steve Matz, Director for Facilities and Planning in the Office for Research, and your department administrator. Please download and post the “Do Not Enter” sign on the door to each such room through the duration of the tour dates. Facilities and Planning will reach out to you directly to make appropriate arrangements for assessing these spaces.

Please refer to this document for more information about the dates and times that various facilities will be affected.  If you have any questions or concerns during this process, please contact Steve Matz, Director for Facilities and Planning in the Office for Research.
