The Center for Bioelectronic Medicine (CBEM) at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, part of Northwell Health, has multiple openings within its laboratories to develop neurotechnology for multiple diseases and conditions. Teams include the neural bypass team, the microfabrication team, the bioelectronics and biosensing team, and the neural decoding and data analytics team. Each successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to determine the nature of neural control over molecular, cellular and organ functions of the body, the parts of the brain that regulate those nerves, and the signals that the brain receives to monitor cell and organ function. Projects will focus on determining which nerve fibers exert control, the types of signals those fibers use, and how these signals can be manipulated to treat diseases and conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, paralysis, Crohn’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and even cancer.

As Staff Scientist under the leadership of Dr. Chad Bouton, you will perform:

  • Investigative research in the field of Material Science and publish/present data in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with Investigators and Scientists in facilitating scientific research and participate in various types of institute and community activities.
  • Provide research and technical support in the areas of materials science, advanced scientific modeling and computational simulation.
  • Supervise and/or provides technical direction to research staff.
  • Attend scientific and technical meetings.
  • Participate in writing of abstracts, manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Perform related duties, as required.


  • Doctorate in Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent with 1-3 years related experience.
  • Experience in the development and application of advanced scientific modeling and simulation software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
