Branco Weiss Fellowship

An array of economic, social, political and cultural changes is provoked and facilitated through scientific advancements. Likewise, social processes and values impact the evolution of science and technology. The Branco Weiss Fellowship is designed for postdoctoral fellows in sciences, engineering and social sciences who are willing to engage in a dialogue on relevant social, cultural, political or economic issues across the frontiers of their particular discipline. The program aims to award up to ten five-year fellowships of up to CHF 100000 (~101,000 USD) each year. The number of recipients depends on the number of applications satisfying the stringent requirements of the strategy committee, not only taking into account the scientific abilities of the candidates, but also personal qualities and the relevance of their projects. Burroughs Wellcome Fund Postdoctoral Enrichment Program (PDEP)

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund has created the Postdoctoral Enrichment Program (PDEP) to support early career scientists who are under-represented minorities (i.e. American Indian or Alaska Native, Black or African American, Hispanic, or Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander). PDEP awards a total of $60,000 over three years to postdocs in biomedical research, who are citizens of the United States or Canada, and hosted at a degree-granting institution in the United States or Canada. American Cancer Society Funding for DNA Tumor Virus Research

The American Cancer Society supports research grants that address the role of microorganisms in development of cancer, as cofactors in cancer, or as treatments of cancer. The Society primarily supports two granting mechanisms, Research Scholar Grants and Postdoctoral Fellowships. RSGs are awarded to newly independent investigators in their first 6 years of independence; mentored RSG grants are also supported. There are no citizenship requirements for RSGs, but mentored RSG recipients must be US citizens or permanent residents. PF applicants must be must be US citizens or permanent residents.

NINDS Intends to Restructure its Support of Postdoctoral Researchers

On May 2nd, the National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) announced that it “intends to restructure its support of postdoctoral researchers by publishing two funding opportunity announcements (FOA) to solicit applications for support of postdoctoral research training and career development.” Estimated to start in December 2016 NINDS will only accept F32 applications from candidates who are within the time window that spans one year before to one year after entering their postdoctoral laboratory. NINDS also intends to issue a FOA to solicit K01 applications from candidates within the second through fourth year of cumulative postdoctoral research experience.

The Graduate School - Faculty Research Grants

Faculty Research Grants are intended to support the research and creative projects of faculty in fields where there is little or no external funding or start-up money available. Postdocs beyond the first year of appointmen and from Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences (social sciences and humanities), School of Communication, School of Education and Social Policy and Bienen School of Music are eligible. Burrough's Wellcome Fund - Postdoctoral Enrichment

The Postdoctoral Enrichment Program (PDEP) provides a total of $60,000 over three years to support the career development activities for underrepresented minority postdoctoral fellows in a degree-granting institution (an institution includes its affiliated graduate and medical schools, hospitals and research institutions) in the United States or Canada whose training and professional development are guided by mentors committed to helping them advance to stellar careers in biomedical or medical research.
