AAAS Launches New E-Learning Career Development Center

Modified: May 12, 2016

The American Association For The Advancement Of Science (AAAS) has just launched the Career Development Center, a new e-learning website located at https://careerdevelopment.aaas.org/. Their goal is to provide online courses that address the skills our members need at different stages of their science and engineering careers.

The e-learning initiative launches with two courses – the first of many to come in 2016 that aim to augment STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education with learning that addresses a range of challenges members experience as they build their careers:

Understanding the Federal R&D Budget
This course provides a basic overview and understanding of the steps in the federal budget process, what influences the process, how it comes together in the executive branch and Congress and how budget politics and science funding interact. Read more here.

Avoiding Common Errors in Proposal Writing
This short course presents the most frequent proposal writing errors seen by the AAAS Research Competitiveness Program over the past five years. The course includes a look at errors by key proposal sections and specific missteps in overall strategy, formatting and layout that can lead to a low proposal ranking by a review panel.
