Heier, Christopher (Integrated Graduate Program in the Life Sciences) works on understanding the molecular basis for the disease spinal muscular atrophy and applying this towards the rational development of therapeutics.
Meade, Lesley (Department of Materials Science and Engineering) works on mimicking mussel adhesion to improve the strength of composites.
Roberts, Tamara (Department of Performance Studies) works on interracial/intercultural music performance.
Towal, Regan (Department of Biomedical Engineering) works on sensory and motor integration in the brainstem and its effects on perception.
Van Engen, Abram (Department of English) works on early american literature and history, puritanism, and study of emotion.
Yountchi, Lisa (Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures) works on the soviet novel in central Asia: literature and identity in Tajikistan.
Graduate students awarded the Presidential Fellowship participate in the Society of Fellows at Northwestern University. The fellowship is awarded to candidates who combine outstanding intellectual or creative ability with the capacity to play an active part in the life of the Society of Fellows. Applications are by department nomination only.
