The OPA philosophy on postdoctoral scholar career management is to enhance scholar empowerment through offerring pertinant resources, information and guidance. Often the most effective career management strategy is one that is actively developed by scholars themselves through informed utilization of the multitude of professional development offerrings available at Northwestern. The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs plans, organizes, collaborates and assists with the development of career enhancing resources for our postdoctoral scholars.
This page also highlights resources, events and workshops that the OPA is looking at developing based on feedback we have recieved from scholars. Please respond to a brief online survey where you can participate and offer us constructive suggestions that can help the OPA better support your training.
Postdoctoral scholars are also encouraged to participate on the OPA PD council that is a volunteer group of postdoctoral scholars that represent the voice of the postdoctoral scholar community and collectively advice and help the OPA set project priorities and objectives. If you are interested in participating, please send an email to the OPA by following this link.

Upcoming OPA events:
1. Career Management workshop : last week of April. The OPA places on the calendar below, information it receives on professional development events at Northwestern. Postdoctoral fellows are strongly encouraged to create and develop Individual Development Plans (IDP) and the OPA presents a career management workshop every month to help postdoctoral fellows better understand how to develop and effectively use IDP's. The OPA calendar is intended to serve as another resource to help postdoctoral fellows 'pick and choose' from the variety of event offerings at the University.
2.Technology transfer to Patent Law: explore these career paths. Being planned for early May 2009.
