Student Associations

The Graduate Leadership Council (GLC) is the voice of graduate students in academic and administrative matters at Northwestern University. The GLC is comprised of delegates from six graduate student associations recognized by The Graduate School (GSA, CGSA, BGSA, CSSA, G-SALSA, QPGSA) and the McCormick Graduate Leadership Council (MGLC) and the Indian Graduate Students and Scholars Association (IGSSA). Through regular meetings and ongoing dialogue, the GLC brings the concerns of graduate students to the attention of the deans and administrative staff of The Graduate School, as well as other stakeholders on both campuses.

To identify these concerns, the GLC polls graduate students through the Annual Graduate Student Life Survey, the results of which are presented to the Northwestern University Board of Trustees and disseminated to The Graduate School, graduate programs, and students. The Annual Graduate Student Life Survey and Report is hosted here on the GSA website.

Previous successful GLC initiatives based on the Annual Survey and Report include:

GLC also supports advocacy initiatives, represents Northwestern at the National Association of Graduate and Professional Students, and co-hosts the TGS Night Out, all while serving as a place for student leaders to discuss best practices on how to best represent graduate students within their individual associations.
