Instructions for Electronic Submission of TGS Grant and Fellowship Applications

Instructions for electronic submission of fellowship and grant applications
Applications for the following awards/fellowships must be submitted online:

  • URGC (GRG) - Graduate Research Grant
  • URGC (FRG) - Faculty Research Grant
  • URGC (SUB) – Faculty Subvention
  • Presidential Fellowship
  • Dr. John N Nicholson Fellowship
  • Center for Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts (CIRA) – Faculty
  • Center for Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts (CIRA) – Student
  • Summer Language Grant (SLG)
  • Ryan Fellowship (current students)
  • Clarence Ver Steeg Graduate Faculty Award
  • Clarence Ver Steeg Graduate Staff Award

Each program should have a designated nominator who submits the fellowship/grant pdf file through the web interface.  This would normally be the Chair, Director of Graduate Studies or Program Assistant. For access or questions about the online submission tool, please contact Kate Veraldi (k-veraldi@northwestern.edu).

To submit the application the nominator should :

  • Ensure that the student meets the eligibility criteria for the specific grant for which he/she is applying
  • Assemble the documents, including the letter(s) of recommendation, into a single PDF file
  • Go to http://fellowships.gsad.northwestern.edu and use your current netid and password to log into the site. (If a security certificate error is produced, click "continue to this website….”)
  • From the list of awards on the right, select the appropriate one
  • Click "add application", on the left side of the page
  • Select the award year (the year in which the award will be made)
  • Search for student as "existing applicant" by student ID/Last name. (Be sure to select PhD for students with multiple listings by clicking on the icon in the "view" column).
  • If fields do not pre-populate, then fill out program information and required fields manually. Click "next"
  • Enter the research topic
  • For Program, select the "school" & "academic organization" that is nominating the student by clicking the icon to the right of the box
  • To upload application, click "Browse" to select the assembled pdf file. You must then click "upload application"
  • Click "finish"
