The following requirements are in addition to, or further elaborate upon, those requirements outlined in the Current Students section of this Web site

Other PhD Degree Requirements

  • Examinations: proficiency examinations in inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry; deficiencies made up through coursework; oral qualifying examination prior to end of seven quarters of graduate study
  • Research/Projects: qualifying examination consisting of written document and oral examination; presentation of one seminar; original research proposal consisting of written document and oral defense (not an extension of dissertation research)
  • PhD Dissertation: must describe original research
  • Final Evaluations: oral evaluation when all other requirements completed
  • Other: all full-time students required to teach for four quarters in their first two years of study.
