Program Description
The Chemistry Department focuses on graduate teaching and research at the forefront of the discipline. Advanced courses, seminars, and research opportunities are offered in the major areas of chemistry: inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. Interdisciplinary research projects in materials, catalysis, environmental and biochemical areas are common and are facilitated by the close physical proximity of the relevant departments.
In addition, research centers such as the Materials Research Center, the Center for Catalysis and Surface Science, and the Center for Nanofabrication and Molecular Self-Assembly foster interdisciplinary research. The PhD program prepares students for research in industry or research and teaching in academe.
Applicants should contact the program or see Web site www.chem.northwestern.edu to learn about program-specific requirements for admission.
