The School of Music is a professional school within the University. Advanced studies in music education, musicology, and music cognition leading to the PhD degree are offered by the School of Music's Department of Music Studies through The Graduate School.  

General Degree Requirements
All PhD students in music take three core courses in critical methods during the first year. Coursework beyond the core is determined in consultation with the program faculty.
