Program Description

The Master of Science in Engineering Design and Innovation (EDI) program is a full-time, one-year program for new graduates or early-career professionals in engineering who want to work more effectively with designers, social scientists, and managers to develop new products and services. EDI has been designed to help engineers flourish in today’s fast-paced, innovation-driven work environment.

EDI will introduce engineers to “design thinking,” the qualitative, synthetic, observational approach used by designers, where discovering the real need and going through multiple iterative cycles of design, build, and test are essential components. EDI will focus upon five components of design: the engineering infrastructure, the methods used in design research, idea creation, and design iteration, and, especially, the human side of products and services.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline, or adequate demonstration of strong analytic skills. Visit the EDI Web site for complete admissions requirements.
