MORS 424-1 The Individual and the Organization (1): Individual behavior in organizational settings. Topics include recent theory and research on social cognition, decision making, negotiation, groups, norms, fairness, and equity theory.

MORS 424-2 Social Processes in Organizations (1): Group behavior in organizational settings. Topics include recent theory and research on group formation, social influence, group composition, group performance, group decision making, diversity, coalitions, intergroup relations and social dilemmas.

MORS 425-1 Behavior in Organizational Systems (1): Theory construction, with effort at verification, drawing on empirical studies. Macro-level analysis of internal organizational system problems such as goals, structure, roles, power, authority, communications, and controls.

MORS 425-2 Organizations in Their Environments (1): Analysis of organizations in their environments, focusing on cross-cultural and cross-institutional research, the ecology, the way internal characteristics condition external relations, and the way environments influence internal processes.

MORS 426-0 Empirical Research in Organization Behavior: Methods and Practice (1): Preparation of studies and pilot testing of theories (in simulation form where applicable) in organization behavior. Primary emphasis on the methodology and practice of fieldwork.

MORS 427 Laboratory Experimentation with Organizations (1): The laboratory experiment as a method of learning about organizations. General theory of experimentation, methodological problems, ethical issues, and practical procedures. Design and pretesting of an experimental study.

MORS 430 Strategies for Leading and Managing Organizations (1): Behavioral science concepts and research findings directed toward understanding human behavior within organizations. Behavior considered as a function of the individual's interaction and operation in groups and the larger organization.

MORS 441 Human Resources Management Technologies (1): Effective utilization of human resources, involving the selection, development, and maintenance of qualified, high-performing personnel. Essential technologies of a human resource management program. Prerequisites: Introductory course in organization behavior, such as MORS 430.

MORS 450 Management Communications (1): Handling basic communication and rhetorical problems faced in influencing the behavior of others. Current knowledge and norms of persuasion, argumentation, and group dynamics applied to problems and exercises in oral and written presentations and group leadership.

MORS 451 Designing Organizational Systems (1): Design of structure and procedures used by complex organizations to meet environmental demands and members' needs. Information systems, control systems, project management, and matrix organization.

MORS 452 Leading the Strategic Change Process (1): Planned and unplanned changes; development of change strategies; measurement of change effectiveness. Responses to external (such as social) changes. Opportunities for fieldwork in various institutional contexts.

MORS 453 Power in Organizations (1): Personal and organizational factors that contribute to a person's political effectiveness in organizations. Political strategies and tactics, ethical considerations, and strategies of protection for targets of an influence attempt. Prerequisites: MORS 430 or permission of instructor.

MORS 454 Creating and Managing Strategic Alliances (1): Analysis of strategic alliances and other strategies used to coordinate relationships between and among firms. Topics include vertical integration, licensing agreements, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and third-party regulators such as trade associations, government agencies, cartels, and trusts.

MORS 455 Behavioral Issues in Strategy Implementation (1): Behavioral aspects of strategic management. Addresses issues related to idea generation (that is, strategy formulation), how resources are allocated and managed, and effects on performance. Emphasis is on different implementation approaches, strategic control, strategic change, and diversification strategies. Cases, learning journals, and in-class discussion are utilized.

MORS 458 Managing with Professionals (1): Special problems of managing the increasing number of managers, specialists, and other professionals in modern organizations.

MORS 459 Managing Technology: Development and Deployment (1): Importance of technology as a determinant of global competitiveness. Examines the quality of techno-business intelligence; external tech-sourcing and alliance development; valuation and control of intellectual property; speed and finesse in adapting technology, standards, specifications, and designs to meet worldwide market needs; and properly structuring and organizing firms to be first-class global technology players. Prerequisites: MORS 430.

MORS 460 Managing Teams in Organizations (1): Relationships among groups in organizations; application to management problems. Topics include group influences on employee beliefs and attitudes; development of norms and group cohesiveness; conformity and deviance; participation and influence sharing in group decision making; and interpersonal and intergroup conflict. Prerequisites: MORS 430 or permission of instructor.

MORS 470 Negotiations (1): Skill development in all phases of negotiation, including managing intragroup relations, integrative and distributive approaches, making choices in response to ethical and human problems, multilateral negotiations, and negotiating with the assistance of a third party.

MORS 471 Individual and Competitive Decision Making (1): Focus on understanding and improving decision making. Allows students the opportunity to develop better decision-making skills experientially. Designed to be relevant to a broad spectrum of decisions that are faced by the manager and professional. Prerequisites: MORS 430.

MORS 472 Making Ethical Decisions (1): Emphasizes the need to understand human decision making in complex environments. Provides guidelines for the analysis of decisions and policies from an ethical perspective.

MORS 475 Issues in Organization Behavior (1): Current issues; topics vary. May be repeated for credit with change of topic.

MORS 499 Independent Study (1-3) : Permission of instructor and department required. May be repeated for credit.

MORS 520 Seminar in Organization Behavior (1): Selected current topics for Ph.D. students.

MORS 530 Special Topics in Management and Organizations (1): Doctoral-level course offered on a one-time basis dealing with a special topic in the Management and Organizations field. Addresses a specific need within the program’s curriculum and/or a trend in the field.

MORS 590 Research (1-3) : Independent investigation of selected problems pertaining to thesis or dissertation. May be repeated for credit.
