Program Description

The Genetic Counseling Program is a six-quarter (eighteen month) program leading to the MS degree. The program, which is accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC), is composed of didactic coursework and extensive clinical experience. Graduates are prepared for employment as genetic counselors in multidisciplinary medical settings, in pediatric, prenatal and adult genetic programs, and for work in private practice, laboratories, government agencies, and specialty clinics for specific genetic disorders. An important goal of this program is to prepare students for eligibility for the ABGC certification examination by providing comprehensive coursework and clinical experiences supervised by certified genetic counselors and clinical geneticists.

Applicants should contact the program or see Web site http://www.cgm.northwestern.edu/gpgc.htm to learn about program-specific requirements for admission.
