Program DescriptionThe Division of Psychology of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences offers a PhD Program in Clinical Psychology. Students are admitted to the program by The Graduate School. The goal of the PhD program is to graduate clinical psychologists who are well trained as scientist-practitioners. At program completion, the graduate is skilled both in clinical practice and research. During tenure in this five-year program, the student completes a curriculum of required courses, participates in at least three years of clinical practica, apprentices as a research assistant for one year, conducts an originally conceived small research project, writes and defends a major paper, completes a clinical internship, and writes a doctoral dissertation.
The student's contacts with clinical populations begin during the second year in the program in a rich variety of treatment contexts staffed by departmental faculty. The division is committed to a clinical training model based on intensive supervision for diagnostic, interviewing, and treatment skills.
Applicants should contact the program or see Web site www.clinpsych.northwestern.edu to learn about program-specific requirements for admission.
Faculty The primary appointment for those faculty with joint or affiliate status in another program is noted in parentheses.
