Program DescriptionFaculty who engage in clinical research training are drawn from various departments, including Medicine, Pediatrics, Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Urology, to participate in course design and instruction.
The objective of the Clinical Investigation program is to produce clinical researchers who are skilled in clinical research techniques, competitive in seeking research support and knowledgeable about the complex issues associated with conducting sound clinical research, particularly in translational and clinical epidemiologic patient-oriented research.
The program offers the MS degree on a part-time, evening basis, primarily for McGaw Medical Center residents, fellows and junior faculty members who wish to receive formal training in clinical research. It also offers graduate students in other life sciences the opportunity to explore the application of basic science concepts to medicine.
An interdisciplinary program sponsored by a consortium of Medical School departments, the program is administered by the Northwestern University Department of Preventive Medicine. The program complements the Master's in Public Health (MPH) program, providing rigorous education in quantitative and ethically sound methods for the design, implementation, analysis and publication of clinical research studies. In addition to courses in molecular medicine and drug development, students take MPH courses in epidemiology, biostatistics, ethics and medical writing. Elective courses include clinical trials, molecular epidemiology, and cardiovascular disease epidemiology.
Applicants should contact the program or visit Web site www.clinicalinvestigation.northwestern.edu to learn about program-specific requirements for admission.
Faculty The primary appointment for those faculty with joint or affiliate status in another program is noted in parentheses.
