The following requirements are in addition to, or further elaborate upon, those requirements outlined in the Current Students section of this Web site

Coursework Requirements

400- or 500-level courses in history of performance traditions, critical theory, media performance, cultural studies, and/or fieldwork 2
PERF ST 410 Studies in Performance 1
PERF ST 518 Seminar: Problems in Research 1
Electives (in consultation with Director of Graduate Studies) 23
Total required units: (Nine units credit is given for the master's degree.)

Other PhD Degree Requirements

  • Examinations: foreign language examination equivalent to two years of college study; qualifying examination taken in spring quarter of final year of coursework
  • Research/Projects: 20-30 minute graduate recital developed in PERF ST 410 Studies in Performance (if not completed as part of master's degree)
  • PhD Dissertation: topic developed in coursework
  • Final Evaluations: oral defense of dissertation
