The Critical Studies in Theatre and Performance cluster sponsors a number of events and activities designed to enhance the life of the cluster. Many of these take part under the auspices of IPTD and Performance Studies, which already collaborate to offer several workshops each quarter, covering topics such as the job search, publishing strategies, grant writing, the Institutional Review Board, the dissertation to book process, archival research, and mock interviews. Cluster students are welcome at all such workshops.
Both Performance Studies and IPTD sponsor regular campus visits from leading academics; co-sponsor visits in related fields; and hold interdisciplinary international conferences. Cluster students are encouraged to attend or participate in all such events.
Post-Candidacy
Cluster fellows who have advanced to candidacy are encouraged to participate in two on-going groups:
-
Post-Candidates’ Journal Caucus (IPTD). This group meets fortnightly to discuss a journal article published within the previous one to twelve months in a journal central to the study of theatre and performance (Theatre Survey, Theatre Journal, New Theatre Quarterly, TDR: The Drama Review, or Theatre Research International). Meetings are student-led.
-
Dissertation Group (PS and IPTD). This group meets ad hoc, but regularly, to read and comment on dissertation chapters in-progress. It is student-led and welcomes members from IPTD, the Department of Performance Studies, and other programs (such as English) where students pursue theatre or performance-related dissertations.
