General Requirements

1st Year
  • 3 laboratory rotations plus summer research (NUIN 590 - Research)
  • NUIN 401 - Fundamentals of Neuroscience (core course; 3 quarters)
  • NUIN 430 - First Year Seminar
  • Quarterly Meetings with Advisory Committee
  • Seminar Attendance (6/quarter)
  • Selection of Thesis Advisor
  • First Year Review

2nd Year

  • Select Concentration Area:
         - Molecular and Developmental Neuroscience;
         - Cellular and  Systems Neuroscience;
         - Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience
  • Complete Great Experiments course in chosen concentration area
  • Complete course electives
  • Teaching Assignments
  • Quarterly Meetings with Advisory Committee
  • Preliminary Research in Thesis lab
  • Seminar Attendance
  • NUIN 590 - Research (4 quarters of registration)
  • Qualifying Exam

3rd Year

  • Ethics course
  • Meet with Thesis Committee
  • Thesis Research
  • NUIN 590 - Research (fall quarter; after fall, register for NUIN 598 until admitted to candidacy)
  • NUIN 599 - Post-Candidacy Research (3 quarters of registration after admission to candidacy)
  • Defend Thesis Proposal
  • Seminar Attendance

4th Year

  • Thesis Research
  • Meeting with Thesis Committee
  • NUIN 503 - Resident Research Continuation - (after completion of 3 quarters of 599)
  • Seminar Attendance
  • Present one public research seminar

5th Year

  • NUIN 503 Resident Research Continuation - registration as needed
  • Seminar Attendance
  • Completion of Thesis research
  • Writing, submission, and defense of Thesis
