As we begin the 2009-2010 academic year, I would like to take the opportunity to welcome all TGS students, and particularly our new students, to the Northwestern community.  While The Graduate School is not your primary academic home at Northwestern, our exceptionally dedicated and highly competent staff is committed to supporting your progress every step of the way in your graduate career, by assisting to make available the financial backing you need to complete your programs successfully, by providing a host of professional development and social activities, and through many less visible channels including the oversight of all academic Masters and PhD programs at NU.

Registration for Fall TGS Night Out Opens October 7
It's time for the quarterly "TGS Night Out".

We continue to receive good feedback about this event - it's an excellent opportunity to get students talking across disciplines. TGS invites you to gather with students outside the lab and library and have a drink and a bite to eat with colleagues from across campus. We'll be providing assorted sandwiches, appetizers, draft beers (domestic) and house wine to all attendees. There is no charge for admission or for refreshments. The details:
Date: Tuesday, October 27, 2009
Time: 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Location: TBA
Registration will be open in the "Events" section of the
TGS home page October 7-12. From the respondents, we will choose a cross section of humanities, social science, and STEM students on October 13, and send confirmation letters to 300 in a separate memo. While you are there, check out the latest from TGS in our News section. Building a graduate student community is one of our goals at The Graduate School, and we believe that providing this kind of event is right in line with this goal. We will be hosting these events quarterly; students that did not make the event this time may have the opportunity to join the fun next time!

Presidential Fellowship Application Deadline Approaches
The Presidential Fellowship is a 24-month award for PhD students and a 12-month award for MFA students, beginning in Fall Quarter 2010.
