TGS Strategic Plan 2013-18

Dear Members of the Northwestern Community,

I am pleased to share with you The Graduate School’s 2013-2018 Strategic Plan: Diversify, Serve, and Engage: Northwestern’s Blueprint for Graduate Education.

Within this document, we discuss ways in which The Graduate School will focus our work and outreach around our three pillars of Diversity, Service, and Engagement. We also provide tangible examples of initiatives currently underway to enhance the experience of our constituents in each of these areas, and outreach activities designed to strengthen the graduate community at Northwestern.

Our plan is highly data driven. In it, we examine the changing face of graduate education using demographic data and information collected from a number of our annual surveys conducted by our research and analysis team.  The data appendix to the plan provides information about many issues we discuss on a daily basis, including degree completion rates, time to degree, job placement, and student demographics.

I look forward to continued discussions with each of you regarding our plan, and to keeping you apprised of our progress.

With Warm Regards,

Dwight A. McBride, PhD
Associate Provost & Dean of The Graduate School
Daniel Hale Williams Professor of African American Studies, English & Performance Studies
