Doctoral Student Opportunity for 2017-18 Academic Year/Residential Academic Initiatives

Modified: June 30, 2017

The Office of Residential Academic Initiatives seeks a Graduate Assistant (ORAI GA) for the 2017-18 academic year.  This part-time appointment provides excellent professional development for graduate students considering faculty and/or administrative careers in academia. Working under the umbrella of Residential Services, a unit in the Division of Student Affairs, the GA learns about administrative aspects of undergraduate life and diverse models of student-faculty engagement, intellectual and cultural enrichment, student leadership, and academic support. The GA’s work within ORAI complements other pedagogical training and provides experience outside of teaching that can be a valuable asset on the job market in higher education and beyond.

The work commitment averages 10-12 hours per week during the academic year, including occasional evenings and weekends with advance notice. The candidate must plan on spending all three quarters on campus, but occasional short-term absences for research and conference travel are fine if arranged in advance.  The GA receives an annual stipend (currently $10,000) allocated through monthly paychecks (September through June inclusively).

Within the ORAI suite at 2122 Sheridan Road, there is a dedicated work station with a PC and lockable drawers, which the GA can use for ORAI business and personal academic work. The full position description and online application is available here.

The Office of Residential Academic Initiatives is eager to fill this position before our program gets underway after Labor Day.  Preferred deadline for applications is Monday, July 31, 2017.  Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and will be accepted until the position is filled.
