Deferral option for international graduate applicants

Modified: February 14, 2017

Dear Members of the Graduate Faculty,

To help reassure and retain current applicants who your program has recommended, or plans to recommend, for admission, you may offer these applicants the option to defer enrollment for up to one year. TGS will support this deferral option for any prospective students who may be directly impacted by the potential immigration ban and the general uncertainty around the current administration’s immigration policies. In the current year's admissions cycle, TGS will support program leadership—at their own discretion—in offering this option to international prospective students.

Any requests of this nature must be forwarded to Nick Alena, TGS Associate Director for Admissions and Recruitment, for processing before the deferral is officially granted. Note that this deferral option still aligns with current TGS policy, but we are providing for wider discretion at the program level this year with regard to its enforcement for prospective international students. If you have any questions about the policy or the deferral process, please do not hesitate to be in touch with Nick Alena.

With Warm Regards,

Dwight A. McBride, PhD
Associate Provost & Dean of The Graduate School
