SIAM Call for Speakers

Modified: January 23, 2017

Northwestern’s Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) is looking for speakers for the winter quarter “Bridging the Gap” seminar. The seminar is to highlight the broad applications of mathematics to diverse disciplines. The seminar will take place on February 20th from 12-1pm, at Tech M416.

SIAM is looking for two student speakers to each give a 15 minute presentation of their research. SIAM is looking for presentations of work that:

  • Use math
  • Apply math to a real world problem
  • Appeal to a general audience
  • Are understandable to people outside of the specific field
  • Are from ANY quantitative discipline

SIAM is hoping to encourage graduate students to talk, but undergraduates are also welcome to apply.

If you are interested in applying, please send the title and a brief abstract of your talk to northwestern.siam.group@gmail.com. Applications should be submitted by February 6th

If you are only interested in attending the seminar, but not speaking, please RSVP here. Lunch provided.
