Applications due for the Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching’s Teaching Certificate Program and Graduate Teaching Mentors program

Modified: May 1, 2017

Applications for the Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching’s Teaching Certificate Program and Graduate Teaching Mentors program will close on Friday, May 12. Develop your professional teaching skills, collaborate with colleagues, engage in the latest conversations in learning and teaching, and help foster a community of learners among fellow graduate students across Northwestern.

Teaching Certificate Program
The Teaching Certificate Program combines seminar, workshops, mentoring, and small-group discussions to prepare participants to teach in their disciplines. Participants analyze and reflect on their disciplinary commitment to teaching by developing a teaching statement and course design project, and discussing topics such as intercultural pedagogy, assessment methods, and evaluation techniques.

Graduate Teaching Mentors
Graduate Teaching Mentors gain a unique context to further their pedagogical development by mentoring their peers in the Teaching Certificate Program (TCP). They oversee 2-3 discipline-specific groups of TCP participants, guiding their growth as reflective practitioners, providing oral and written feedback on their work, and discussing and applying relevant literature on teaching and learning. The position carries a $3,000 stipend.
