The Harvard Medical School Dean's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The Harvard Medical School Dean’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (DPF) was established in 2012 to nurture, advance and retain a diverse scientific workforce in the basic and social sciences. It is open to individuals particularly from backgrounds underrepresented underrepresented in science with less than four years of relevant postdoctoral research experience.

  • Two-year postdoctoral research fellowship in the fields of basic or social sciences
  • Prepare postdoctoral fellows, particularly scientists from underrepresented minority and  disadvantaged backgrounds, for cutting-edge research careers
  • Available in basic science and social medicine departments located on Harvard Medical School Quadrangle

Regarding eligibility, candidates must have:

  • Completed MD, PhD, ScD, or equivalent in the basic or social sciences by the start date of this research fellowship
  • Less than five years of relevant postdoctoral research experience      
  • United States citizenship or permanent residency
  • Demonstrated motivation for career advancement in research and scholarly excellence

Applicants must submit:

  • Online application
  • Responses to questions related to research and academic interests and goals
  • Three references including one from applicant’s thesis advisor
  • Dean’s Postdoctoral Fellowship is sponsored by Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership and the Office for Postdoctoral Fellows at Harvard Medical School.
